The fundraiser was launched in 2021 by Linda-Ray Ndlovu, who at the time had just launched her career as a rap artist. Through her struggles as a new and up-coming artist, actress and creator, she created 'The New Age Fundraiser' named after her debut first album.
Through fundrasing throughtout the year with events and pop-ups, the fundraiser continues to grow and became the showcase that it is today.
The first fundraiser was at 'The working mens club" in Holbeck, at the time it began, under theatre company 'Slung Low'. Through their resources we began hosting an annual showcase at the venue, where local artists, actors, small businesses and creators were invited to perform or set up shop as a pop-up stall, in order to promote themselves, connect and receive the experience and support.
By the third fundraiser this year, we've had artists and people approaching NAF wanting to get involved with the creative process and take part as acts.
The New age fundraiser was created to support the local communities within the arts industry, who want to try out or launch themselves into the industry. As well as any small businesses starting up, that wish for support in promoting themselves. Overall the fundraisers funds and donations go towards employing a creative staff of students and young people wanting experince or wanting to get involved in the arts industry, and towards sourcing out new up and coming photographers and videographers to capture and record the acts sets, and overall event. This is something you find artists need when coming out as an act or future applications to gigs and festivals.
NAF also offers audio recording for the acts which is mastered and sent back to them for their portfolios and launch into their careers.
